The Gold Bar Mine is located 35 miles northwest of Eureka, Nevada. The property has seen historic mining from 1988 to 1994 by Atlas Precious Metals Inc. McEwen Mining Inc. acquired the property and began active exploration in 2011. The current project consists of an open pit mining operation delivering ore to a crushed heap leach with solution being processed through an ADR plant and refinery.

Job Description

To establish and drive an internal culture of compliance through effective planning and communication of expectations and permitting requirements. The Coordinator will oversee reporting, training, and the monitoring of environmental compliance to company policies and standards, permits and best practices.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide operational input into budgets for the Section
  • Develop maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual planning of permitting, licencing, fees, compliance issues, etc
  • Coordinate and/or conduct audits and inspections as required
  • Prepare and submit permitting applications
  • Coordinate environmental compliance, permitting, and training
  • Maintain the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative
  • Participate in educational meetings and workshops to instruct employees regarding environmental permitting requirements
  • Maintain the records that feed the Environmental dashboarding system
  • Evaluate accidents/incidents relating to their effect on environment, determine proper response or escalation
  • Conduct monthly, weekly, and daily sampling as required for compliance
  • Maintain the SDS database
  • Develop practices and procedures around monitoring and reporting of biological activities, hazardous waste, and air and water data
  • Maintain the MonitorPro database
  • Collect data for the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) and maintain database for reporting purposes
  • Visit Tonkin Springs care and maintenance site (environment closure) once per week to carry out necessary actions and reporting
  • Participate in staff meetings and safety meetings
  • Carry out routine administration and reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Sciences / Environmental Sciences or related field
  • Min 3 - 5 yrs experience – in a mining or similar environment preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of State and Federal Regulations and NEPA, RCRA
  • Knowledge of NEPA and ISO 14001 would be preferred
  • Knowledge of company policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of HSEQ standards and requirements relevant to this area of work
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer- based systems and software related to this role
  • Valid driver’s licence

Physical Demands

  • Bend, stoop kneel, stand for long periods of time, and sit for long periods of time
  • Required to hear heavy- and light-duty equipment traffic signals
